Xiaomi and Oppo will produce their own 5G processors!
Chinese technology giants Oppo and Xiaomi want to get rid of the monopoly of processor producing companies such as MediaTek and Qualcomm and to develop their own 5G-powered processors. It is stated that Xiaomi and Oppo have made great strides in this regard and are close to the production process.
Although the processors of MediaTak and Qualcomm brands used by many smartphone companies are dominating the market, there are also companies that produce their own processors such as Apple, Samsung and Huawei. Xiaomi and Oppo are also making attempts to release their own processor and mobile chipsets like these brands.
Oppo was said to have aimed to create its own 5G processor last year and eventually found the necessary funds to bring the processor to life. Xiaomi is no stranger to processor production, it produced its first processor in 2017 and named the processor Surge S1. The Surge S1 processor was first used on Xiaomi's 5c smartphones, but was not successful.
While preparations for new chips are underway, Xiaomi and Oppo are not expected to launch smartphones with the new chipset in the near future, because mass production and use of chips is a very demanding process in terms of both time and money. Therefore, even if new chips are produced, without Qualcomm and MediaTek, it does not seem possible for Xiaomi and Oppo to continue in the smartphone industry in the near term.
